Bud Caldwell is now living with the Amos family and has had some problems with the son that get him locked up due to the fact the mom doesn’t believe Bud. Bud finds out that the son has used the same tactic he used on him, on other orphan kids also. Bud is taken to the shed where on the way the family says negative things to him to make him feel bad.  Bud eventually overcome his obstacles in the shed after being there a while and gets out and sets out on his journey to meet find his real father.  Bud had intentions to walk from Flint, Michigan to Grand Rapids where he thought his real father; Herman E. Calloway, the bass player for the Dusky Devastators of the Depression lived. On his way, he finds a Hooverville, a city made up of the homeless and jobless, where people treat him well. He also meets a kind limousine driver, who warns him about the dangers of a black person traveling alone. He met this man named Lefty Lewis who knows his father well. Lefty Lewis agrees to take Bud to his real father.
My personal reaction was admiration, because Bud endured all that hardship so he could find his real father. I believe if Lefty Lewis hadn’t found Bud then he might have not been that much closer to finding his real father. I think the author’s intent was to inspire reader to follow your dreams. Bud aspired to meet his real father no matter what obstacles was put in his way. I think organizational patterns in the story were cause and effect, and spatial order. The cause was that Bud was locked in the shed; the effects were that he escaped, ran away and starts walking. The cause was that Bud was walking alone early in the morning; the effects were that Lefty Lewis found him and helped him get that much closer to finding hid father. The spatial order was he was walking from Flint Michigan to Grand Rapids.
